KINGSTON USBS ARE THE BEST!!! : Kingston Digital Inc. 8GB DataTraveler 100 Generation2 2.0 USB Flash Drive DT100G2/8GBZ - Black
I have been looking for a rugged and dependable USB drive to carry around with me at all times. The problem I have with previous USB drives is that they are just too flimsy. Yeah, they will last for a while and work perfectly fine but, inevitably, they break. This has caused me to constantly worry about the data stored on them, and the ability to retrieve that data if (and when) it breaks. My problem always seems to be the actual USB plug part breaking from the actual body of the drive. (Sorry for the "non-technical" terms.) This usually occurs when I kick the drive while it is plugged into my desktop, or it breaks when I put my laptop down.
So I bought this drive because it looks pretty durable and also considering its called the "DataTraveler." While the slide to cover the USB plug is very nice and does offer more protection than other drives, the point at which the USB plug sticks out from the body of the drive still feels as flimsy as any other USB drive I have used. Oh, and don't be fooled, the drive case and the protection slide thingy are all still made out of regular old plastic.
Also, they made a very strange decision on the orientation of the keyring hole. The keyring hole is oriented perpendicular to the drive, as opposed to parallel. What this means is that when you put it on a key ring (as I do since I carry it around with me) it ends up sticking out at an angle with the rest of your keys. Seems like a strange choice. Would have made my keyring a whole lot less bulky if the drive just laid flat with the keys next to it.
Having said all this, it still is a perfectly fine USB drive and pretty cheap considering the storage space. Just wish it was designed a little better...
[UPDATE] Annnnnnd the keyring hole just broke off completely after a grand total of 2 days of use. This drive is made out of cheap plastic. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS DRIVE IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR A DURABLE PRODUCT.
